Maisie was built by Travel Two in 2013 which was when she acquired her name .

Masie is built on a 2008 Vauxhall Movano now with a mileage circa 123,000.

She has been very well maintained with no expense spared(lots of service history ) and was resprayed a couple of years ago .

She has the Travel Two design with a separate horse area and an emergency rear exit .

Fully adjustable light weight aluminum central partition .

This is a Chaigley built on a 54 plate Nissan Interstar (same as Master and Movano ) circa 132k miles .

A MUCH LOVED BOX NOW READY TO BE VIEWED WITH ME IN BRISTOL ( 12th October 2024)

I am winding down on the sale of secondhand boxes and concentrating on my new builds however I am making an exception for this one which belongs to a customer who has just bought a new build from me .

When I was dealing in secondhand boxes I would literally race across the country to buy one of these builds .

This box was built by TRU LEISURE in 2008 and bought by me in 2010.

Since then it has had two owners .

These were very much "high end " builds and with the judicious use of aluminium (as opposed to cutting down on weight in critical places ) they are one of the very few well built boxes which achieve a genuine payload of 1.2 ton .

LATEST NEW BUILD BEING COLLECTED BY THE NEW OWNER .

Of course I am biased but I do honestly believe the Travel Two new build offers the best value for money on the current market .

Making this bold statement I am not just comparing it with other new builds but also with many secondhand boxes in the same price range .

They are not cheap and cheerful nor are they expensive and flashy

My new builds are built with safety and functionality as priorities.

This said they are a good balance between the "agricultural " styles of the past and the "motor home" styles of the present .

To me at least they offer a stylish and functional solution to horse travel at a really sensible and fair market price .

I can provide one on a chassis no older than eight years with moderate mileage for £30k or a little less .

Of course I can provide one on a nearly new chassis with a lower mileage for a quite a bit more

Everything in the build and design is geared to the safety and comfort of the horse .

Everything in the design of the fittings is geared to the safety and ease of use for the human .

Each one is bespoke from the choice of donor vehicle to the interior design features and you get to choose your own paint colour .

I could perhaps call them "limited editions" as I don't mass produce but simply build one at a time , but in that time the customer has a monopoly on my time in trying to produce a box suiting their exact requirements .

VAUXHALL MOVANO 2015 WITH 98k MILES

THIS ONE IS BEING COACH BUILT and the total cost on completion will be less than £30k

If you look at the second hand market prices this will be a very good deal for someone .

A new built box to which an "early bird" can have some input into the internal design

Emergency second exit is standard along with other safety features including a drop down breast bar and load guide gates

Hopefully it now goes without saying that our boxes are properly reinforced on the bulk head and side wall !

A relatively low mileage vehicle which has a mechanical inspection report already made on it and will be sold with a new MOT (no advisories) service etc .

Expected payload circa 1.1 ton on a model that could be uprated to 3.9 ton gross if required .

TALKING NEW BUILDS

We are now doing two types of new builds ,the coach built version that we have been doing for the last twelve years and now the new addition to the "Travel Two Stable " the Crossover which was the inspiration of my son !

I have never been too keen on van conversions feeling they tended to be dark and claustrophobic with limited headroom .

Our Crossover is an attempt to redress these issues with a new headroom of 7'8" , lots of windows , roof light and the internal design is available modeled on our coach built design if required .

This offers a separate horse area and a second exit and cameras for reversing and horse monitoring .

If you look at the photos it is easy to spot the differences between these and the ordinary high top van conversion .

With the grossly inflated prices on secondhand boxes continuing you could buy a newly converted crossover on a ten year younger chassis for a comparable price to a secondhand horsebox on a ten year older chassis .

Compared with one of our coach builds of similar chassis year and mileage the Crossover comes out at around £8,000 -£10,000 less .

I am not trying to put you off buying a coach built box from me !

But not everyone has a budget in excess of £28k but with a Crossover a more modest budget is required.

Example prices quoted are based on a 2014 -2016 vehicle with mileage of 90 - 120k

On both models three different designs are possible , the traditional integral horse and living , the separate horse and groom area design or the long stall .

All three will offer an emergency second exit

1. THE EQUISHUTTLE

I sold it in 2012 and it has given my customer excellent service but she no longer needed a horsebox so has sold back to me .

I originally bought it from a Racing stable who had it built for them

It has always been regularly serviced so drives exceptionally well .

If you want storage this is the one ...external and internal lockers

A jump barrier could be fitted at extra cost

The paintwork is looking very tired now (especially the bonnet )

I can get it resprayed to a colour of your choice .

2. THE SELECT

I originally sold this one in 2015 .

Now being sold on behalf of the customer

This is a long stall design and we fitted detachable breast bars for horses that don't travel so well on a long platform .

We also altered the doors ,internally and externally to offer a second "emergency exit " so a very safe design .

Built on the Master MK 111 model which gives a more modern and powerful drive (120bhp ) than the earlier MK11 and a world away from the dear old MK1

This is a Travel Two sale of a Marlborough Hunter

This box will need a cambelt change, valet,service and new MOT so can be viewed but has not been prepared yet for sale , hence the lack of photos which will be added later .

It was first registered in 2003 , and now has 104k on the clock

It has a high spec cab with electric windows and mirrors and air conditioning

I originally bought and sold this box in 2013 which has been in the same home ever since .

CONSIDERING A NEW BUILD ?

With the grossly inflated prices of secondhand boxes this could be a wise move .

You can control the overall cost by your choice of donor vehicle so it is still realistic to be able to buy one for an all inclusive cost of less than £25k . ( This budget would get you a donor vehicle less than ten years old with moderate mileage )

This one was built on a L3 (long wheel base ) but you could also have one built on a L4 (extra long wheel base ) which allows for a little living in the groom's area .

Whatever design you want we can give you a second "emergency"exit for the horses .

The other advantage of a new build is that you can have it built to a design that suits you and your horse as opposed to "making do" with a design built for someone else !

You can also choose your colour (for this one the customer chose Ford Kuga Russo)

Built by me in 2016 this box has had minimal use

Just out of a garage where it has had over £2k spent on it !

Including new cam belt , new alternator belt , 4 new tyres , new discs and pads all round , steering rack boots, full service and new MOT

Please note I uprated this box to 3.9 ton gross in 2016 for the customer who planned to carry two large horses in it .

Having an MOT was an error on the part of the garage

I can now sell this either as a 3.9 ton and get it plated before sale or sell it as a 3.5 ton and simply down rate it ( easy paperwork job ) and sell with the MOT .

The MOT has one advisory which we can do before sale .

Two very different colours

Two very different designs

Customers are invited to discuss their spec of donor vehicle and their spec of build down to the final decision on colour .

I work to their budget and their choices

The first box was built on a Citroen Relay 2015 with 78k on the clock .

It is painted in Vauxhall silver lightning which has a slightly blue hue

It has the design of a separate horse area

The second box was built on a Fiat Ducato 2012 with 76k on the clock .

It is painted in Fiat sage green and is having black horse signage

The design is of the integral horse and groom's area .

Both designs offer an emergency exit out the back

I currently have two Renault Masters being built to spec for customers but I will be able to take more orders for January 2021 with completions in February .

The end price depends on the donor vehicle but for a chassis around 2012/13 with a mileage under 150k expect the total cost to be somewhere between £18 - 19k.
Mileages under 100,000 usually cost more but can be achieved at the same price on a slightly older chassis but on a similar age chassis the price is likely to be £20,000
For a 2015/16 chassis with moderate mileage the cost could be around £22-24k

Very unusual and sought after 3 liter engine giving a very powerful and smooth drive
This is what the owner has to say about this box :

I am selling my 3.5 Tonne Barlows Horsebox. I have owned it since April 2015 having bought it from Polly at Travel Two ( my second box from Polly ).

It is on a Nissan Interstar, with a strong 3.900 cc engine. It drives really well and never runs out of steam even with my two horses in. I’ve have been all over the country in it, to shows and stay away shows. It has been reliable starts first time and never let me down apart from a flat batter last winter, we replaced that battery. It has been well looked after since we owned it, I have included all the bills for work we have had done. It had a new double one piece aluminium floor in May this year and also on top a one piece sealed rubber floor and walls to allow washing out after use. At the same time the ramp hinge, rubber and protective rubber to the hinge has been replaced. We also had new gas struts to the top door replaced. It’s has a MOT till May 2020 and it has been serviced in May 19.

AGE VERSUS MILEAGE

MOST OF MY BUILDS I MANAGE TO KEEP WITHIN THE £20K BUDGET
TO ACHIEVE THIS YOU ARE PROBABLY LOOKING AT A CHASSIS 2009-2012 (in the region of 7 to 9 years old with a mileage up to 100k )
Higher mileage donor vehicles come cheaper and so the end price will be less.
CHASSIS 2 to 5 YEARS OLD (2013-2016 ) with mileage up to 100k are likely to have an end price of £20-25k
Again higher mileage can come cheaper .
All are built with a design offering a closed off horse area which can be opened right up to offer a second emergency exit .
Within this basic design there are some spec options .
I have two in build at present (both sold) one is on a 2016 chassis with 58k miles ,the other a 2011 chassis with 35k miles .
The starting point for ordering one of these boxes is to discuss budget and donor vehicle requirements .
Pictured below is the latest "creation" (sold). It is on a 2012 chassis with 109k miles .
The buyer of this one prioritised age over mileage within her budget (although it has to be said one of these vehicles with 109k on the clock is probably only at one third of its potential mileage .)
It has two central partitions ,fully adjustable, to enable one large horse to travel centrally and thus give the vehicle a better balance .
The buyer of the 2011 with 35k on the clock prioritised mileage over age of chassis keeping within her budget .
The buyer of the 2016 with 58k on the clock stretched his budget a little to achieve the best of both variables but it has still come in under the £25k top limit mentioned above .

This box was built by Champion on a LWB vehicle only previously used by the Renault Main Agent as a demonstrator .
Full history is known .
It is a 2004 (Mk111 chassis) with a genuine 22,000 miles on the clock .
Currently rated at 3.9 ton gross it offers a payload of 1.4 ton
It could easily be down rated to 3.5 ton gross with a payload then of 1 ton
This is a steel framed aluminium clad build so very robust .

Arci is in Serbia and needs a forever home .

ADVERTISED FOR A CHARITY DONATION

Marlborough Hunter 3.5t on a 54 plate Nissan Interstar, (same as Renault Master).

267,700 miles on the clock. When it was first converted to a horsebox it was used by a professional transporter, so was serviced every 3 months at this point and regularly serviced since. Full service history available. Whilst I've owned it, it has been maintained by a commercial fleet HGV specialist.

Underside is sealed to prevent corrosion and has been parked on hard standing to further lessen the risk.

I've owned it since January 2013, since when it has had 3 new tyres, new starter motor, new ramp and bonnet and bumper respray April 2016, new cambelt September 2015, new battery November 2016, new rear brake calipers and pads April 2017 and sidewall reinforcement work done April 2017.

MOT until mid November 2017; only advisory was a sticky rear brake caliper but they have since both been replaced.

Does have general wear and tear but overall in good condition, well used and well maintained.

Weighed with a third of a tank of diesel and a bit of kit in the back; weight was 2540kg, giving a payload of 960kg approximately.

This is a solidly built box from a reputable manufacturer that has been well serviced and maintained.

NEW BUILD ON A LWB 2010 chassis circa 75,000 miles

The next one to go in build is the 2010 chassis Movano with 75,000 miles on the clock.

It has been extremely well maintained and is in excellent mechanical condition , although we will fit a new cam belt before sale .
It is a fairly basic build so won't break the bank ! But it is strongly constructed , has load guide gates , an adjustable central partition with sliding bite board ,a wide back door, plenty of windows, storage cupboards , and a reversing camera. Renault Master LWB '05 chassis circa 90,000 miles 120 bhp engine six speed gearbox.

This box was built by Staffordshire Horseboxes so has large horse dimensions with an internal head room of 7'10", lots of light and ventilation and external and internal lockers
It is a very well appointed and substantial build with some nice features including an aluminium planked ramp which is very strong but light and has the added bonus of a large screen reversing camera.

RACEMASTER

This Racemaster is built on a Renault Master LWB 55 plate (box built 2010) mileage circa 117k
These are probably the most robust builds on the market but not the most stylish - they actually look more like a horsebox than a motor home!
They offer large horse dimensions and a ramp that never gets heavy over time.
This one has an external tack locker and internal wardrobe cupboard plus luton for storage.
The central partition has a telescopic arm so herringbone settings can be added. It also has a window cover that can be used for a horse worried by passing traffic.
As always it will be sold with a warranty, new cam belt, new MOT, service and general health check.

DONOR VEHICLE JUST GOING IN BUILD - This one has now sold.

Renault Master LWB 58 plate 65,000 miles.
Chapman builds try to incorporate every safety feature and at the same time maintain a good pay load (1.1 -1.2)
These boxes offer a genuine second "emergency" exit and also have the horse area closed off by means of two full height doors.
The bulkhead and the side wall are properly re enforced,load guide gates come as standard and a detachable bridge can be fitted in front of the breast partition so that if a horse does get a leg or two up there is no "well"to slide into.
There are lots of windows, a roof vent and excellent head room making them light, airy and inviting.
The spare wheel is fitted in a sensible accessible place behind the cab seats and there is even a back step that can be used as a mounting block!
There is a choice of two different half height central partitions with bite board. And there can either be two single or one single and one double external tack lockers fitted depending on space required in groom's area.
Barn doors above a light ramp come as standard too, as research has shown me these are the preferred option to the canopy.

This box was built in 2013 on a 56 plate ('07) LWB Movano chassis mileage circa 104,000

The design of these boxes offers a genuine second exit plus a horse area that can be closed off by means of two full height light weight doors.
This box is being sold with a new cam belt, new MOT, service plus usual warranty.
It is a very light and airy box with several opening windows ,roof vent and good headroom.The central partition is adjustable with a range of settings and the bite board has two positions.The luton has been converted to a cupboard, there are two external lockers and an internal hanging rail and mirror. There is a small camera in the cab to monitor the horses plus viewing window.

Vauxhall Movano built in 2013 on a '08 chassis now circa 100,000 miles

This box was sold by me as a new build by Kent Horseboxes in 2013 . Movano LWB '08 chassis 120bhp with 6 speed box circa 100,000 miles. Having given the customer good service she no longer needs it so I have bought it back
These builds have very large horse dimensions and a good pay load (just over 1.2 ton).
It has a steel bulk head, cctv to monitor the horses, external tack locker and internal open fronted wardrobe.
It will be sold with a new MOT and usual warranty.

This horsebox is mechanically excellent and we are undertaking some internal refurbishment, however the paint work is tired so will offer at two prices: £12,750 as it is £15,000 with a respray. It is a substantial build with very well padded horse area, barn doors above the ramp, detachable bite board. The groom's area offers seating and two very large walk in cupboards, the luton is designed to sleep on if required.

Coach Built Renault Master

This horsebox has been built on a LWB Master chassis 59 plate ('09 registered) 120bhp engine 6 speed box circa 125,000 miles (genuine!), recent cam belt change. The donor vehicle was a CatD ( light damage to panels) which of course is now academic as the panels came off to build the box, however as with all Cat D's this will be offered at a good price. The box itself was built last year and is in good clean condition. There are barn doors above the ramp,weave bars above the breast partition, an external tack locker, internal open fronted wardrobe and dual purpose camera fitted. At present the horse standing is short (6'6" rug max) and the groom's area long! However as the breast partition is removable these dimensions can be altered. This a bit of an all singing all dancing build. It has the safety features of an all steel bulk head and steel bar re enforced far wall. It also has a horse wash down facility with heat settings (solar panel on roof) and small hob for human comfort complete with fire extinguisher!

NOW WE NEED A FOREVER HOME

NERA is not a particularly beautiful dog but beauty is, as we all know, only skin deep. Nera has a beautiful soul, she is a very gentle,kind dog - friendly to everyone and to other dogs, she will make someone a really rewarding companion. She is spayed and vaccinated and if I can find her a forever home I will pay the travel costs. Please look at these photos, the first is of Nera when she was found, the second of Nera now. This dog has suffered please someone offer her a future without suffering.

These dogs are in a sanctuary in Serbia recovering from a traumatic and miserable existence on the streets. Each one is spayed/neutered /vaccinated/given the chance to recover but then has to be returned to the streets if no sponsor/foster/adopter is found as there are only limited places and limited finances at this shelter. Sponsorship is £15 a month until the dog is fostered or adopted and it is one sponsor per dog so the dog becomes "yours" until such time as a forever home is found.I have two lovely customers sponsoring Nera and Smile, now Bifi and Bea need their fairy god mothers. Come on you people for the price of a takeaway once a month you can change the world for these little souls.
Bifi is a very friendly dog who came to Moj Pas heavily pregnant - she is now spayed. No oil painting but has her own appeal I have nick named her "Funny Face" Please do something good, make sure Bifi can live in safety and at the same time join the VIP customers!
Bea is the second dog for whom I am looking for a sponsor or a adopter. She is small sized and friendly. She had a rough time living on the street and was very timid but the sanctuary has helped her gain confidence and she will make someone a lovely small pet. How can you resist that face?
BOTH THESE DOGS NOW HAVE SPONSORS!!
So now consider SAD BOY. He has no name as he was found lying in the road after being hit by a car and dumped at the sanctuary. He is "nobody's dog " but by sponsoring you can make him "somebody's dog". He is a very quiet boy about eight months old and loves human company he actually desperately needs a forever home but while he waits ,sponsorship will secure his place at the sanctuary.

Burlington Bertie should be called Burlington Betty - such a girly colour!

Originally built for Katie Price this is a well built and designed box on a '05 LWB Movano chassis 120bhp 6 speed box and drives really well. Currently tacho fitted so kilometres which I have calculated to be around 105,000 miles
This box has a number of nice features including plenty of opening windows plus roof vent, high breast partition with rolled steel bar , padding on the ceiling above the horses' heads, spacious external tack locker, full height wardrobe and storage cupboard in the luton.

Racemaster

Vauxhall Movano LWB low mileage '05 chassis with Racemaster box. This is a very robust build (steel framed) and is fitted with a jump barrier so will appeal to those whose priority is horse safety.It is in nice tidy condition and will be sold with a new cam belt, new MOT, service and usual warranty. I am adding some preliminary photos but it is pouring with rain here this morning (!) and any marks on the paint work are due to rain on the camera lens. As I am being deluged with requests for internal photos I have added a couple but please note these have been taken before valeting!

Citroen Relay '04 chassis

The box was built by Heathrow Horseboxes and is very nicely appointed with a well padded horse area,load guide gates and barn doors above the ramp while the groom's area offers seating and plenty of storage. Although a LWB chassis the Relay has a shorter horse standing length than the Master/Movano so maximum 6'6" rug wearer but there are no wheel arches protruding into the horse area. .

Vauxhall Movano '07 LWB chassis 120bhp 6 speed mileage in the 90k's

This box was built by JC Coach Works in December 2012 on a '07 LWB chassis and sold by me as a new build. It has the powerful 120 bhp engine and six speed gearbox , mileage is in the 90k's. It has a separate groom's area with full height door into horses, headroom of 7'9"and lots of windows so very light,airy and inviting,two external tack lockers. There is a cctv in the cab to monitor the horses and an all steel bulkhead. It has had a recent cam belt change, a new battery and alternator and will be sold with a new MOT. Little Bonnie was lost from Reading Services some six weeks ago. Her owner is devastated. Please anyone seeing a little Jack Russell on it's own ring one of the numbers shown below. Straying dogs get frightened and disorientated and can travel miles so where ever you are please be on the alert for this little soul.

Fiat Ducato on a 1999 chassis built by Racemaster (for Kingfisher) circa 2004. Powerful 2.8 diesel engine mileage circa 105,000. These are very basic but extremely robust builds, as the wheel base on a Ducato is shorter than the Master/Movano the horse standing is 6'4" so 6'6" rug wearers or one larger horse as the partition will herringbone and the headroom is good at 7'6". Please note NO wheel arches in the horse area so horses can stand square and nothing for them to climb on! The groom's area is quite spacious with seating and saddle racks/hooks, the luton has been made into a cupboard for storage. Mechanically it is superb (same owner for ten years, well maintained and paper work kept(!) recent cam belt. We will be selling with a new MOT and usual warranty.The box has been resprayed at some time and most of the paint work is quite good, however the bonnet and top of the luton are a bit blistered so we will see what we can do with this while keeping it as a budget horsebox. Price £7,500

Coach Built box by M&D on a Vauxhall Movano LWB '03 chassis circa 94.000 miles.
The horse area is light,airy and inviting with large horse dimensions (7'8" headroom 7'6" chest to tail)There are four windows to the horse area plus one for viewing in the bulk head, two roof vents, padded adjustable partition with bite board (folded back in the photos), load guide gates. At present no jockey door in breast partition but we can put one in if required.
The groom's area is particularly well appointed with seating, wardrobe cupboard, two more cupboards and inset sink and hob. Roomy external tack locker with spare wheel carried on the back.This a very solid, well built and designed horsebox - functional rather than stylish !
This is a well maintained horsebox (lots of paper work)current MOT with no advisories until April 2016 but we will sell with a full 12 months MOT, also new cam belt to be fitted, full service and usual warranty. Price £10,950
